If you have ever asked three people what a website costs, you probably got three very different answers. One said “a few hundred dollars.” Another said “around five thousand.” A third said “it depends,” and then went quiet.

We understand why it feels confusing. We are a small team of freelancers here in the Philippines, and we have spent years helping small business owners in the US, Australia, the UK and Canada get found online.

The question about price comes up in almost every first conversation, and we have always felt people deserve a plain answer. So here it is, as clearly as we can write it.

The short answer

In 2026, a small business website can cost anywhere from a few dollars a month (do it yourself with a builder) to roughly $1,000 to $5,000 (a freelancer) to $5,000 to $15,000 or more (a typical agency). A site that is also properly set up for Google and AI search sits on top of those numbers, because that part is the one most people skip. Our own fixed prices are $499, $899 and $1,399, with the page copy and the SEO checklist already included.

First, what do we mean by “SEO-ready”?

A website can look beautiful and still be invisible. We see it often, especially with sites made quickly in AI builders. The pages look finished, but the basics that let Google read them are missing: a unique title for each page, a clear heading structure, a sitemap, fast loading on a phone, and details that match your Google Business Profile.

“SEO-ready” simply means that foundation is done properly before launch, so you are not paying someone to fix it six months later. If you would like the full list, we walk through every item in our guide, What Is an SEO-Ready Website? The 12-Point Checklist.

It is also worth saying clearly: SEO-ready does not mean ranked. We will come back to that, because it matters for how you think about the price.

What websites cost in 2026: the rough market picture

These are rough ranges, shown so you have something to compare against. Every provider and every project is different, so please treat them as a map, not a promise.

RouteTypical 2026 range (USD)What to watch for
DIY website builderAbout $3 to $159 per month, depending on the builder and planCheap to start, but you write every page and set up the SEO yourself
Freelancer (simple site)About $1,000 to $5,000Page copy and SEO setup are often quoted separately
Agency (basic site)About $5,000 to $15,000Bigger teams and processes. Complex or ecommerce builds can reach $15,000 to $50,000+
TopSEOPh$499, $899 or $1,399, fixedPage copy and the 12-point SEO checklist are included
Market ranges are based on Bluehost’s 2026 website cost guide (updated June 2026). Quotes vary by provider and scope.

Looking at that table, you might wonder how we can charge so much less than a typical freelancer or agency. That is a fair question, and we answer it further down. For now, the main thing to notice is that the sticker price is only part of the story.

The costs people forget to count

When we help a business owner compare quotes, the surprises almost never come from the design fee. They come from everything around it. Here is what we ask people to add to their budget, whoever builds the site:

  • Domain name: usually about $10 to $20 a year.
  • Hosting: anywhere from about $3 to $50 a month, depending on the plan and how much traffic you expect.
  • SSL (the padlock): many hosts bundle a basic certificate. Paid ones are commonly $10 to $100 a year. A secure site matters for trust and for search, as we explain in why HTTPS belongs in your SEO strategy.
  • Maintenance: updates, backups and security. Estimates for a business site run from about $200 to $1,000 a year, and they vary a lot depending on the platform.
  • Writing the pages: good copy takes real time. If a quote does not mention it, ask who is writing it.
  • SEO setup: titles, descriptions, schema, Search Console, a sitemap. Often skipped, or sold later as an add-on.
  • Your own time: if you build it yourself, the hours are a cost too, even when no invoice arrives.

That last one deserves a gentle word. Building your own site is a perfectly good choice for some people, and we would never talk you out of it if you enjoy it and have the time. We only want you to count the whole cost, not just the monthly fee.

How we price ours, and exactly what you get

We keep three fixed-price packages. The price is one-time, in USD, and the page copy is included. You pay 50% to start and 50% before launch, and you pay your hosting and domain directly to the provider you choose, so there are no markups hiding in there.

So how can it cost less?

We will be upfront about this, because we think you should know. We use AI to speed up the slow parts: a first draft of the page structure, layout options, and first-pass copy based on the details you give us. That is a big reason the price can be lower.

But AI does the first draft, not the final say. Every page is reviewed and rewritten by a person so it is accurate and sounds like your business, and an SEO specialist checks the whole site against our 12-point list before anything goes live. We also build on clean, fast code that Google can read, rather than a page that only appears once scripts run.

The other reason is simpler. We are a small team with low overhead, and we would rather keep our prices fair and serve more small businesses than quote high. We are not claiming a bigger agency does worse work. Their price often covers a larger team, custom design and project management, and for some businesses that is exactly the right choice.

What no website price can promise

This is the part we care about most, so please bear with us. No one can sell you a number-one ranking, and we do not. Google’s own SEO starter guide says plainly, “There’s no guarantee that any particular site will be added to Google’s index.” It also notes that changes can take anywhere from a few hours to several months to show up, and suggests waiting a few weeks before judging the effect.

What a good website does is remove the obstacles. It lets Google, and AI assistants like ChatGPT and Gemini, find, read and understand who you are and what you do. After that, ranking depends on your competition, your content, your reviews and time. We wrote about how that works for local searches in how the Google Map Pack ranks businesses, and about getting mentioned by AI in why your business doesn’t appear in ChatGPT.

Think of it this way: the website is the shop with the doors open and the lights on. It still needs people to walk past. That second part is ongoing work, and it is priced separately (we cover what that really costs in our pricing breakdown for dental SEO, which applies to most local businesses).

Which option is right for you?

Here is how we would think about it if we were in your shoes.

  • You enjoy tinkering and have more time than budget: a DIY builder can work. Just use a checklist so the SEO basics are not left out, and read up on how to read Google Search Console so you can see what Google sees.
  • You want a clean, found-ready site without the learning curve: one of our fixed packages is built for exactly this.
  • You need a fully custom brand, a large site or ecommerce: a freelancer or agency with a bigger scope may suit you better, or send us a custom quote request and we will tell you honestly if we are the right fit.
  • You already have a site and it is not getting found: you may not need a new one at all. See the next section.

Already built a site with an AI tool?

Many of the owners we talk to built something with Lovable, Bolt, Wix or a similar tool, loved how it looked, and then waited for the calls that never came. If that sounds like you, please do not start over just yet. We wrote about why this happens in Can AI-built websites perform in Google? and looked at the evidence in AI-built websites: the truth, the bad and the data.

Often the fix is cheaper than a rebuild. Our AI Site SEO Rescue audits and repairs sites made with those tools, so you keep the work you have already done.

Questions we hear a lot

Is hosting or a domain included in the price?

No. You pay those directly to the provider you choose. We recommend an affordable option for your platform and help you set it up, so everything stays in your name and you keep full control.

Do I own the website?

Yes. Your domain, hosting account, business email and Google tools are all set up in your name, and you get full access at handover.

How long does it take?

Typically 5 to 14 business days, depending on the package, counted from when we have your content. Slow feedback or missing photos can push the date back, which is completely normal, and we will keep you informed.

Will my site rank number one on Google?

We cannot promise that, and we would be wary of anyone who does. We make sure the foundation is right so Google can find and understand your site. If you want ongoing help climbing, that is what our Done-With-You and Done-For-You plans are for.

What if a cheaper quote is half your price?

Then please compare what is inside it: who writes the copy, whether SEO setup is included, and who owns the accounts. We explored this in what a real SEO package contains and Affordable SEO, or just affordable “oh no?”.

A gentle next step

Choosing a website is a big decision when you are running a business on your own energy and budget. We do not want you to feel rushed. If you are not sure which route fits, tell us a little about your business and we will give you an honest recommendation, even if the answer is that you do not need us.
